Found!

A favorite project type is Found Space.  A common New York dream is to open a door to find extra room in your place that you needed was there all along!  So when a client asks, “We love our apartment, but it’s gotten too small for our family…is there anything creative we can do?”  That is the start of some of my favorite projects.

Throughout the years, I’d say I typically have at least one of these found space projects on the boards.  Here are a few examples…

A neighbor friend had me over one evening to wonder about grabbing 93″ of a defunct boiler room just on the other side of their rear apartment wall.  We grabbed the space for a larger bath and laundry!  And the family is happy to be staying put in their enlarged place.

Even after the space is found and a plan is laid, it still needs to pass muster at the Department of Buildings.  I’ve gotten pretty adept at a quick, to the point, cost effective, filing set with a 100% approval rate.

My favorite part is seeing our collaborations come to life once complete!
